No end to the general strike declared on 10 January 2007 is in sight and Mr El Conde of Budd Conakry reports that commercial activity in the country of Guinea is now at a complete standstill.
All ports, mines (including bauxite) airports, shops, offices, schools etc. are closed and the country has officially been declared to be in a state of siege.
A strict curfew is in place and the population is only allowed out one or two hours per day; those on the streets are in danger of their lives. The place is deserted.
As a result of the above, we are sorry to report that our Conakry colleague, Mr Fode Mario Camara, has been unable to return from the three-day Budd and Wiggins Business Seminar attended by representatives of our subsidiaries and agents from 18 African countries in Lome (Togo) last week.
Mr Conde can be contacted on the following telephone number: +244 64 20 68 41.
