Sacking of Minister Causes Disturbances in Conakry

Following national television’s criticism of a speech published on internet supposedly emanating from President Lansana Conté, the Minister of Communication and New Technology, Mr Justin Morel Junior, has been relieved of his functions and replaced by the head of the Agence Guinnéenne de Presse, Mr Issa Condé.

Despite the ensuing disturbances in certain areas of Conakry during which the sound of gunfire was heard and the general unease among the population, the port remains open and no official or union action has been taken as yet.
