Some Improvement in Situation in Douala

Back To Index

We understand that due to a lull in the violence on the streets of Douala, people are once again venturing out onto the streets to buy basic essentials or go to work We have also received reports that activity in the port is resuming.

Only time will tell whether the present respite signals the end of the troubles for the time being or whether they will recommence with renewed vigour once the protestors have replenished their larders…

In the meantime, the Cameroon social movement, the CODE is calling for an intensification of the violence in a bid to obtain the immediate resignation of President Paul BIYA. It has also called for a blockade on all Cameroon Embassies in Europe from 3-10 March 2008 along with a demonstration at the European Union headquarters in Brussels on 4 March 2008 to protest against “France’s passive attitude towards Paul Biya’s crimes against the People of Cameroon”.
