Coup d'Etat in Conakry

Following death of President Lansana Conté who had been ill for some considerable time, in the night of 21 December, the country of Guinea has been in the hands of the Army which is itself divided.

The government and all public authorities have been revoked while the constitution has been suspended.

A public announcement was made yesterday afternoon forbidding anybody from going out onto the street. As a result, there is no activity in the port at the present time.
