Extreme Weather Delays Cargo Operations

Asia

The BUDD Group’s offices in Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam report that typhoons and violent rains are disrupting cargo operations.  This is creating long delays, particularly for vessels carrying water-sensitive cargoes such as rice or cement.

For additional information or assistance, please do not hesitate to contact our Regional Director (Asia), Mr Van Hong Dang (van.hong@budd-pni.com, mobile +84 987 412 833).

West and Central Africa

Due to exceptionally heavy rains in both Guinea and Cameroon, the ports of Conakry and Douala are experiencing:

Severe Port Congestion

Discharge operations, particularly of rice, are frequently interrupted and vessels may well be sent out to anchorage to allow another vessel to discharge a more water-resistant cargo.  Some vessels have experienced delays of two to three months.

In Guinea, we understand that bauxite loading in the Kamsar terminals has not been affected.

In Cameroon, vessels carrying fruit have not experienced delays as they benefit from specific berths.

Traffic Jams

Heavy rain and flooding also mean that trucks struggle to drive to and from the ports to deliver or collect cargo and increasing delays in cargo operations.

Telecommunications Problems

The extreme weather results in both power cuts and network failures.

Similar difficulties may also occur in other West and central African countries.

Should you experience any difficulties in reaching any one of our offices, please do not hesitate to call us on our mobiles:
