Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games: Expected Port Congestions & Advisory
Under the official motto “Africa welcomes, Dakar celebrates”, the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Dakar 2026 (October 31 – November 13, 2026) mark Africa’s first-ever Olympic event. While hosting a major international event across Dakar, Diamniadio, and Saly, the Games require strategic planning across all critical transport and supply chain infrastructure. As highlighted by the IOC and several global media, the event celebrates young athletic talent and full gender parity.
Infrastructure & Port Impact
Based on the official CETUD Mobility Plan, strict traffic regulations and flow-separation measures will be enforced across the region:
- General traffic circulation is strictly prohibited within the designated security perimeters surrounding Olympic venues.
- Specific lanes and highway exits (such as designated sections on Highway A1) are reserved exclusively for emergency services, accredited YOG vehicles, and public transit shuttles.
- Access for local commercial operators and residents within restricted zones requires official clearance via special vehicle access permits (vignettes issued by COJOJ).
Risks & Supply Chain Mitigation
- Road closures and flow separation around key transport nodes risk creating severe traffic gridlock, impacting freight drayage and terminal turnaround times.
- Logistics operators and port users are advised to leverage digital mobility tools (e.g. CETUD Mobilités app), anticipate security checks, and adjust delivery schedules to mitigate transit delays.
