After Friday’s earthquake at sea, it seems that Algeria was spared the much-feared strong after-shocks (see our 1 August bulletin).

As might be expected, there is some structural damage to buildings and many people have had to leave their homes but there is considerable relief there were no further major quakes over the weekend.
