Gambia – Returning to Normal
This morning, we received the following self-explanatory update from our Gambia office:

Outgoing President Jammeh left The Gambia on Saturday night the 21st
January,2017 after discussion/ negotiation with other West African Presidents
namely Guinea Conakry and Mauritania . On Sunday evening, 22nd
January, 2017 ECOMUG contingent from five West African States led by a
Senegalese Military Commander entered the capital City of Banjul to guard the
State House & country
The country is gradually returning to normal, shops and markets have
opened and people are returning after fleeing from possible outbreak
of violence and unrest. The government have dispatched buses to various
destinations in the Gambia and neighboring Senegal
to help returnees who may otherwise be unable to pay their return fares
home.
The Port of Banjul and some government offices have always been working
normally before and even during the impasse. It is rumored that there are
ECOMUG war ships( this has not been confirmed ) at the entrance to the River
Gambia checking on vessels coming into the port of Banjul.
Finally, President Adama Barrow has yesterday asked all Gambians to return
home and to go their offices and about their lawful businesses as
situation in the country is now safe and near normal.
