General Strike in Nigeria – Ports at a Standstill

Budd’s Lagos office
advises that a general strike of all Nigerian public and private sector employees
started this morning (27 September 2018).

For the time being, the
strike has brought activity in Nigeria’s ports to a standstill.  No vessels are berthing and none are
discharging cargo.

The strike is motivated
by pay demands and has been described as a “Warning Strike”.

Negotiations between
the government and representatives of the Trade Union Congress are underway.
