Strike at Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT)

Since yesterday (3 August 2017), about 650 workers at the Jakarta International
Container Terminal (JICT) in
Indonesia’s main port, Tanjung Priok port in North Jakarta, have been on strike.
Among other things, they are demanding the payment of bonuses and contract renewals.

Yesterday, the strike in the Container Terminal brought loading and un-loading
operations to a halt.  It is reported that the strike will remain in force until 10 August
2017.

The 20 vessels which should normally have used the JICT terminal during this period have
been shifted in accordance with
contingency plans to the four
other neighbouring container terminals at Tanjung Priok port:
Terminal KOJA (7 vessels), New Port Container Terminal 1 (NPCT-1)
(6 vessels), Terminal 3 Tanjung Priok (5 vessels) and Mustika Alam Lestari
(MAL) (2 vessels).

Budd’s Indonesia office is
continuing to monitor the situation.
